Lord's Test, Day 2 (Social Media)
Sports News: A tough day of test cricket meant that India finished at 145/3 after grinding out on a dry wicket at Lord's on day 2. The day started with Jasprit Bumrah doing the damage, going through the defenses of three English batters within the first hour of play. Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith held England's fort and stitched a much-needed 84-run stand after the hosts found themselves in trouble at 271-7. The runs came quickly off the duo's bat, with both scoring a half-century before heading to the pavilion. England scored 387 in the first innings.
Jasprit Bumrah rattled the England batters with pace and swing in the first innings. Although he finished his day 1 with just a wicket of Harry Brook, the speedster wasted no time in getting back to business with the second new ball. A beauty to Ben Stokes hit the batter's off stump, leaving him wondering. He had no answer to the nip-backer Bumrah produced out of nowhere. Joe Root then followed. After getting to his century with a thick outside edge on the first ball of the day, Root could not last long. He was undone by another in-seaming delivery by Bumrah, which took Root's inside edge and crashed into the middle stump.
In came the bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes, who was dismissed for a golden duck. This time, it was the delivery going away from the batter, taking Waokes's outside edge to the keeper, Dhruv Jurel. Bumrah then clean bowled Jofra Archer to claim his fifer.
After Bumrah's brilliance, England were stranded at 271-7 when Carse joined Smith at the crease. Both batters took the charge to Indian bowlers and hit a flurry of boundaries. Stitching an 84-run stand together, the duo took England past 350 at lunch. Smith was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj while trying to poke the away-going delivery, ending up nicking the ball to the keeper. Carse's assault did not stop as he took England to 387, including a well-deserved half-century for himself.
The opener KL Rahul is still at the crease alongside the No. 5 batter Rishabh Pant. Currently placed at 145/3, India has a big task ahead. Rahul reached a gritty half-century and is currently unbeaten at 53, while Pant has also looked comfortable for his 19.
